The second round of league phase play in the UEFA Europa League seldom disappointed, as only one game saw a side win by more than two goals. Here is one stat from each match after the matchday.

Brann, Go Ahead Eagles earn maiden wins

3 - It was an incredible result for Lille, as they edged Roma 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico. An early goal from Arnar Haraldsson did the damage for Les Dogues as they go two for two. The number three has a point of significance here: for one, Roma lost to a French club for just the third time in 13 outings (7-3-3); more crucially, Lille have prevailed on Italian soil for the third time in a row.

15 - Bologna could only manage a draw against Freiburg as both teams took their first point of the UEL league phase after a 1-1 stalemate. Riccardo Orsolini's first-half goal was cancelled out by a penalty from Junior Adamu just before the hour. The Rossoblu remain undefeated at home in the UEFA Cup/Europa League across 15 games (8-7-0).

7 - It was a gutsy win from Norway's SK Brann as they edged Utrecht 1-0 in front of their fans. Saevar Magnusson netted the game's only goal four minutes before the break. Brann have already done something they seldom did in their previous group phase showing - keep a clean sheet. They are now seven without loss against Dutch opposition (3-4-0).

11 - Fenerbahce are back to winning ways after holding off OGC Nice for a 2-1 home victory. Kerem Akturkoglou got both goals for the Turkish club, who remain unbeaten in their continental home games so far. Nice's troubles are a bit deeper though, as Les Aiglons are winless in their last 11 group matches (0-4-7).

9 - Braga maintain their impressive start in the Europa League this season. Goals in either half were enough for them to claim an excellent 2-0 victory over Celtic in a notoriously difficult venue to play at. The Portuguese side, playing in their 10th UEL group phase, have not lost in their last nine continental games (8-1-0).

12 - Young Boys will be quite happy to finally get on the board again. Courtesy of a Joel Monteiro first-half brace, the Swiss side got the better of FCSB 2-0. It was the third time in a row that the Romanians failed to score at home in a league phase match. More crucially, Young Boys ended a 12-game winless run in away group phase matches, dating back to 2020/21.

6 - Real Betis continued their domination of Ludogorets. Three years on from the teams' last meeting, Los Verdiblancos scored a 2-0 success in Razgrad. Betis have now matched their six-game unbeaten run in European away games, winning four of the matches during that run.

8 - Go Ahead Eagles were one of the biggest winners of the day. The Dutch Cup holders, playing in their maiden group phase, came from a goal down to top Panathinaikos 2-1 away. Milan Smit's winner eight minutes from time meant that the side from Deventer earned their first-ever win in Europe, at the eighth time of asking.

1 - There were several red cards in Czechia, but that did not stop Viktoria Plzen from powering through to a 3-0 defeat of Malmo. It turned out to be the only game of the round where a side prevailed by more than two goals. The Swedes were disappointing in this match, managing just one shot on target in the 90 minutes.

Forest stunned at home, Sturm hold on

29 - Despite losing to Bundesliga opposition on Matchday 1, Basel found their way past Stuttgart in a 2-0 success. Albien Ajeti and Xherdan Shaqiri were the goalscorers at St. Jakob Park as the Swiss champions grabbed their first win in Europe this term. It was a frustrating defeat for Stuttgart, who had a whopping 29 shots.

5 - Celta Vigo are up and running in this season's Europa League after a 3-1 victory over PAOK Thessaloniki. It took a comeback, but in the end the Spanish side, who reached the semi-finals in 2016/17, were able to maintain their unbeaten record versus Greek teams. That number is now at five (4-1-0).

22 - Just as they did on Matchday 1, Porto scored a very late goal to earn a win. This time, Crvena zvezda fell victim to the 2010/11 winners' late heroics in a 2-1 loss. Red Star have never been comfortable in away matches, with that being their 22nd defeat in a group stage/league phase match on their travels.

19 - Aston Villa are a perfect two for two as they got past Feyenoord 2-0 in Rotterdam. The Villans were clinical, scoring two of their three attempts on target. Similar to Stuttgart, Feyenoord had far more chances, but despite their 19 attempts, they were unable to find the back of the net.

4 - Barnabas Varga played the hero for Ferencvaros in a 1-0 win over Genk. The Belgians have failed to make it out of the group phase in each of their last three attempts, with this loss possibly being a crucial one for them. As for Fradi, they are four European away matches without defeat (3-1-0).

20 - Lyon recovered from an early penalty miss to top RB Salzburg 2-0 at home. Adam Karabec played provider in both goals for OL, and they have won their opening two group games in Europe for the third straight time. Salzburg have conceded 20 times in their last six continental games, all of which ended in defeat.

50 - Dinamo Zagreb came out on top over Maccabi Tel Aviv as the Croatians replicated a 3-1 scoreline. They join the seven-team group to have won their first two games in this season's Europa League. With that said, the match was closer than what meets the eye. After all, both teams saw 50% of the possession in the contest.

10 - FC Midtjylland continued their impeccable away record in Europe, edging Nottingham Forest 3-2. Valdemar Byskov's 88th-minute goal proved to be the difference-maker at the City Ground, as Forest remain winless in the UEL so far. The Danes have won all four road games in Europe in 2025/26, scoring 10 times in the process.

16 - In what was another close one, Sturm Graz grinded out a 2-1 success over the still-struggling Rangers. The Austrian champions got the job done in the first half as they found the back of the net twice. Despite getting their goal shortly after the restart, Rangers just could not find a second. The two sides amassed a total of 16 shots each in what was a fascinating match.
