The 2026 World Cup was held from June 11th to July 19th in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tournament featured 48 national teams and was played in 16 modern stadiums.

23:12 BST - A Deniz Undav double off the bench secured a 2-1 win over Ivory Coast in Toronto and sealed Germany’s place in the knockout stages of the World Cup (WC) for the first time since their victorious campaign in 2014.

"Obviously, really disappointed," he told the BBC.
"It was a tricky one to analyse. We did lots of good things: we attacked, had good opportunities, but you can't concede that many and hope to win. We'll learn a lot from the game.
"We played against a good team. They hurt us in wide areas, and one goal was from a long ball we didn't deal with well.
"It was not a great start in the first period, then came back in the second part of the first half. We started well in the second half, but lost the ball, conceded two goals and the game was gone from us."

Sweden impressed in their Group F opener with Premier League pair Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres finding the net in a 5-1 demolition of Tunisia.
The Netherlands, meanwhile, took the lead twice via Virgil van Dijk and Crysencio Summerville against Japan, but couldn't get a win over the line as they drew 2-2.
13:01 BST - Sticking with Scotland, they face the prospect of coming up against Neymar next, with Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti confirming his availability to feature.
The 34-year-old has not played since mid-May and has been recovering from a calf injury, which has kept him out of Brazil's first two group games.
"Neymar will be training tomorrow individually and on Monday he's going to be training with the rest of the team. He will be available for the match against Scotland."

12:35 BST - Scotland captain John McGinn said the Tartan Army have belief in qualifying for the World Cup knockout stage for the first time despite falling 1-0 to Morocco on Friday.
Scotland conceded the eventual winner after two minutes and remain on three points in Group C, potentially needing to get something against Brazil in their final game on Wednesday.
"We are a resolute group and what we lack sometimes in quality to compete with the top 10, we have in fight and character," McGinn said.

11:48 BST - The other match saw Turkey suffer World Cup elimination as they were beaten and stifled 1-0 at the hands of 10-man Paraguay.
Paraguay needed just 64 seconds to take the lead in San Francisco via Matias Galarza's long-range effort.
Miguel Almiron was sent off at the end of the first half, becoming the first player to be dismissed for covering his mouth.

11:17 BST - Brazil had liftoff at the World Cup with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Haiti, moving to the top of Group C.
Manchester United's Matheus Cunha scored twice and Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior netted all in the first half in Philadelphia.
It leaves Brazil in a healthy position ahead of Wednesday's clash with Scotland, while it's elimination for minnows Haiti.
